    Andy Murray is set to skip the entirety of the US Open 2019. The Scotsman had intended to play doubles in New York but has changed his mind for the time being. He wants to focus on reaching the top level in singles and will take part in next week's ATP event in Winston-Salem. Here are the details.

    'I'm not going to play doubles at the US Open'

    "I'm not going to play doubles at the US Open. My goal is to get back playing at the level that I want to on the singles court, and I've decided that I need to focus all my energies on that right now," Murray said.

    How has Murray fared in Cincinnati Masters

    Murray was beaten convincingly by Richard Gasquet in the first round. However, he has won the round of 16 clash in doubles with partner Feliciano Lopez. The two combined to beat Ryan Harrison and Jack Sock 2-6, 6-3, 10-7. He will be keen to go all the way and win the doubles event in order to boost his confidence.

    Winston-Salem: Crucial test lies ahead for Murray

    Murray has taken a wildcard for next week's event in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He will join the likes of Kevin Anderson, Denis Shapovalov, Tomas Berdych and Britain's Dan Evans in the draw. It will be a testing period for Murray. Murray said that he needs matches under his belt. "Because I want matches, and that's what I need right now," said Murray to BBC.

    Murray done with doubles for now

    "I've hardly played the last couple of years and, having discussed with my team, after this week I think doubles is done for me for the time being. I need to focus my mind on getting matches on the singles court," added Murray.

    Murray to decide on tournaments post Winston-Salem

    A lot of things depend on Murray's performance at Winston-Salem. This will help Murray to decide whether to play a Challenger event during the US Open 2019. The US Open starts from August 26 onwards. "It depends on how Winston-Salem goes. if I do well in Winston-Salem, I'll know my level is good enough and I'm ready to win matches at tour level."

    Murray needs to take his time to rise once again

    Murray had a hip resurfacing operation in London in January. The star had stated earlier that he is now pain-free. Earlier, he had ruled out playing singles at this month's US Open and felt that he needs up to 18 months to make a comeback. But he made a comeback in Cincinnati singles and will want to slowly get back to shape.
