South Africa announce ODI, T20I squads for India series

South Africa have announced their ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming series against India. The matches will take place after the Test series ends next week in Guwahati. The Proteas will face the Men in Blue in three ODIs from November 30 to December 6. The venues are Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam. A five-match T20I series will follow from December 9-19 across Cuttack, New Chandigarh, Dharamsala, Lucknow, Ahmedabad.

Temba Bavuma to lead ODI squad

Temba Bavuma, who is currently captaining South Africa in the Test series against India, will lead the ODI squad. Meanwhile, star batsman Aiden Markram will captain the T20I side for this tour. South Africa's head coach Shukri Conrad stressed on the importance of these white-ball matches as they prepare for next year's T20 World Cup co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Conrad said the T20I series is a major opportunity to finalize their squad for next year's T20 World Cup in India. He stressed on the need for clarity on combinations and roles as they build toward that tournament. Despite missing premier pacer Kagiso Rabada, he is optimistic about other players stepping up in his absence. Anrich Nortje returns to the T20I side after missing previous tours due to injury.

Conrad believes the ODI series against India will give them a clear picture of their performance as a team. He said these matches would help them identify areas to improve on while shaping the squad for the 2027 World Cup. "In the 50-over format, these matches will give us a clear picture of where we are as a group and what we need to keep building on as we shape the squad ahead of the 2027 World Cup," Conrad mentioned.
