India beat Bangladesh: Script history by completing four-successive innings wins

Team India overcame Bangladesh inside three days to win the historical Day-Night Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. With this victory, India sealed the two-match Test series 2-0 to maintain a 100% record in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. India scripted history by becoming the first nation to win four consecutive Tests by an innings. Here are the records broken.

How did the Day-Night Test pan out?

In the first innings, Bangladesh were bowled out for 106 in 30.3. Ishant dazzled with the pink ball and showed his prowess with a fifer. Notably, Indian pacers claimed all 10 wickets to continue their superb form. In reply, India declared at 347/9. Kohli amassed a 194-ball 136. Bangladesh missed the plot once again in the second innings as Ishant caused a top-order collapse.

Kohli amasses a host of records

Indian captain Kohli needs 11 runs to get past legend Sourav Ganguly (7,212) in terms of career Test runs. The 31-year-old surpassed the likes of Greg Chappell (7,110), Stephen Fleming (7,172) in terms of career Test runs (7,202). Kohli notched his 27th career Test ton and equaled the likes of Graeme Smith and Allan Border (27 each).

Kohli smashes 20th Test century as captain

This was Kohli's 20th Test century as captain of Team India. The star batsman also notched his 70th international century across formats. Kohli also amassed his 41st international century as captain. He is the first Indian to hit a century in D/N Test. Kohli equaled Sachin Tendulkar in terms of second-least innings to 27 Test tons (141). Sir Don Bradman (70) leads the show.

    Indian batsmen script these feats

Cheteshwar Pujara (55) registered his 24th career Test fifty. He went past Michael Vaughan in terms of career Test runs (5,740). Ajinkya Rahane (51) slammed his 22nd career Test fifty. Rahane now has 642 runs in Tests this year. Kohli has also surpassed the 600-run mark in 2019 (612). Mayank Agarwal became the second batsman to surpass 750 runs in Tests this year.

Other memorable records scripted in this Test

Mominul Haque became the second Bangladesh Test skipper to notch a pair in a Test match. Habibul Bashar had registered this unwanted feat against Zimbabwe in 2004. Kohli became the fastest to score 5,000 runs as a captain in Tests (86 innings). He went past Ricky Ponting (97 innings).

Ishant scripts these records at the Eden Gardens

Ishant (5/22, first innings) notched the third-cheapest five-wicket haul by an Indian pacer in Tests. Jasprit Bumrah (5/7 versus West Indies) and Javagal Srinath (6/21 versus South Africa) have produced better spells than Ishant. Ishant clinched his second career five-wicket haul on home soil. He had earlier claimed his maiden fifer in his first Test at home. That was his second career Test match.

Team India scripts these brilliant records

This was Team India's third successive series whitewash. The Indian cricket team sealed a fifth Test series win in a row. India have now won seven Tests in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship to stay atop the standings. Meanwhile, India also registered their 12th successive Test series win at home.
