Modi reaches France for G7 Summit
What's the story
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Evian-les-Bains, France, to attend the G7 Summit. "Reached Evian, France for the G7 Summit. Looking forward to engaging with world leaders and exchanging views on key global issues," he posted on X after reaching the spa town. The G7 Summit is being hosted by France from June 15-17. This will be India's 13th participation as a partner country and PM Modi's seventh consecutive appearance at the event.

Slovakia visit
PM's Slovakia visit historic, productive: Modi
Before heading to the G7 Summit, PM Modi visited Slovakia, where he called his trip "historic and productive." He thanked the Slovak government and people for their hospitality in a post on X. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico personally saw off PM Modi after his visit. During his visit, he was conferred with "The Order of the White Double Cross" (1st Class), the country's highest civilian honor. This is the 33rd international recognition received by him from a foreign country.

India, Slovakia sign MoUs in education, research
The two nations also signed several MoUs in education, research, talent mobility and technology during this visit. The agreements were formalized in a Joint Statement after delegation-level talks between PM Modi and PM Fico. The initiatives focus on talent mobility, professional safety, and institutional partnerships across higher education and culture. They also include an MoU on Cooperation in Labor Migration to facilitate safe movement of workers between the two countries.

Modi's packed schedule
Once he reaches France, French President Emmanuel Macron will formally welcome him. Following the reception, he will participate in a high-level working session themed "Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity." The session will be attended by G7 leaders, partner countries, and key representatives from the World Bank and the African Development Bank. On the sidelines of the summit, he will hold bilateral meetings with Canadian PM Mark Carney, United Kingdom PM Keir Starmer, and the United Arab Emirates President.

Modi to meet Trump
A major focus of PM Modi's engagements at the Summit will be his meeting with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday. The two leaders are expected to engage in wide-ranging discussions about bilateral cooperation across sectors, as well as deliberations on important regional and global issues of mutual concern. The encounter will be the two leaders' first face-to-face meeting since February 2025.
