What's the story

India's aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has sought detailed information from flight operations inspectors on all inspections and audits conducted for Air India since 2024, according to PTI. The DGCA's request encompasses planned and unplanned inspections, audits, cockpit and en-route procedures, station facilities, ramp operations, and cabin conditions, among others, as per the communication.

Deadline set

Request was made through an email communication

The DGCA has asked to submit details of all inspections and audits conducted for Air India since 2024 by today. The request was made through email communication. The request comes after the airline was issued a show-cause notice for violating flight duty time limitations (FDTL). Three senior officials were also removed from their positions due to certain lapses.

Increased scrutiny

Tata Group airline under intense scrutiny

The Tata Group airline has been under intense scrutiny since one of its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner planes crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport on June 12. The incident claimed the lives of over 270 people on board and on the ground, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. In this tragic incident, only one person survived among the 241 individuals on board the ill-fated plane. Vishwaskumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British national, miraculously escaped the crash.
