Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh sugar prices rise on Diwali demand
Business
Sugar is getting pricier fast: Maharashtra saw a 17% surge to ₹5,100 per quintal, while Uttar Pradesh isn't far behind at ₹5,200.
The main reason? Tight supplies and festive demand from households and sweetmakers for Diwali.
Government okays 1MT imports, shortages persist

But shortages haven't really eased yet.
Delays in sugarcane harvesting in Maharashtra and Karnataka are making things trickier, with farmers now pushing for better prices as costs climb.
So if you notice sweets costing more this season, now you know why!
