Have to put extra effort to reach perfect performance: Aamir

Aamir Khan believes he is not a natural actor and unlike others, he has to put an extra effort to reach the perfect pitch. The actor said he has a sense of what a good performance entails but it takes him a while to embody the character. Khan further said, he does not mind going through multiple rehearsals if it can better his performance.

Aamir Khan, who has completed 30 years in Bollywood industry, said actors like Nasseruddin Shah, Om Puri, Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan are powerhouses as when they give their shot, it comes out very naturally and effortlessly. "It took me four months to learn Haryanavi accent for 'Dangal', but Zaira Wasim picked it up within a week," Aamir further said.

Aamir said, his first reading is always pathetic and he started working on it. "When the reading of Lagaan was happening I was like, director Ashutosh Gowariker shouldn't drop me as other actors like Raghubir ji were doing good," Aamir added.

The 53-year-old actor noted that his biggest strength lies in the fact that he is "not scared to fail" and prefers doing rehearsals again and again till he achieved the perfect pitch. The actor explained that performance becomes richer when it is "layered". Aamir Khan also said he won't call himself a method actor as he hasn't studied acting.

Aamir needs three to four months time to rehearse

Aamir said, he does rehearsals for three to four months before a film (shoot). "I rehearse with the director and then I do rehearsals alone," he added. "Sanjay Dutt has photographic memory. You give him three pages, and he will look at them and keep the paper and will be ready. I don't have photographic memory, I take time," he added.
