One of the most commercially successful actors and the voice behind many fictional characters, Om Puri, was an Indian actor who worked in mainstream Hindi cinema and independent and art films. After completing his school education, Puri attended the National School of Drama to train in theater acting. Later, he, along with Naseeruddin Shah, joined the Film and Television Institute of India, which made them close friends. Puri made a debut in the industry with the children's movie 'Chor Chor Chhup Ja'. Later, he worked in many Hindi films as well as movies produced in the United States and the United Kingdom. In the 1980s, he became one of the mainstream actors and was cast in 'Bhavni Bhavai', 'Sadgati', 'Ardh Satya', 'Mirch Masala', and 'Dharavi'. The movie 'Ardh Satya' got him National Film Award for Best Actor. He also appeared in several Kannada movies. 'East is East' and 'City of Joy' are some of his famous British and Hollywood movies. In the 2000s, he appeared in many popular Bollywood movies such as 'Rang De Basanti', 'Singh is Kinng', 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', and 'Dabangg'. In 2017, Puri died after suffering a heart attack at the age of 66.
