What's the story

When a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was brutally murdered in Aligarh over a petty sum of Rs. 10,000, the entire country wept. Naturally, many celebrities from the tinsel town took to social media to express their anger and grief. Actress Sonam Kapoor also tweeted against the crime, but it apparently didn't go down well with filmmaker/activist Ashoke Pandit. Here's what happened.

Crime

First, the details about the case

In a gruesome act of crime, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was barbarically murdered in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh over an unpaid, petty loan of Rs. 10,000. The toddler went missing on May 31, and the family filed a police complaint. Two days later, her body was found in a dumpster just 50-60 meters from her home. The body was mutilated and badly decomposed.

Personal

Opinion: Let the country mourn in peace

While Sonam's hypocrisy is palpable, these Twitter arguments are of no use. These stars and filmmakers already have enough glam and attention in their lives. Taking up such issues to argue or seek attention is downright shameful. So, please, let the country mourn peacefully.

Development

Meanwhile, the police have nabbed two accused

Meanwhile, in the case, the UP Police have levelled charges against two accused, Zahid and Aslam, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Also, given the national outrage over the crime, the case will be investigated under the National Security Act (NSA). Furthermore, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the case, according to senior officials.

Work

Separately, Sonam will next be seen in 'The Zoya Factor'

On the work front, Sonam Kapoor will next be seen in The Zoya Factor, a romantic-comedy based on Anuja Chauhan's 2008 novel by the same name. The story revolves around a girl, Zoya Solanki, who becomes a lucky charm for the Indian Cricket team during the 2010 Cricket World Cup. Directed by Abhishek Sharma, the film also stars Dulquer Salmaan in the lead.
