Ashoke Pandit: News
Actor, director, producer...there aren’t many things Ashoke Pandit hasn’t done in the industry. Add to that, his persona as a social activist which often flows through his art puts him in a category of filmmakers who swim against the flow. Born on May 11, 1957, in Mumbai, Pandit was a regular in the theater scene during his time at the Narsee Monjee College. After college, he made plays for the Indian People’s Theatre Association. His career in the film/TV industry began as an associate director. He worked in hit shows like ‘Naya Nukkad,’ ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi,’ etc. Pandit rose to prominence with the superhit show ‘Filmi Chakkar,’ of which he was the director. He then went on to make many TV shows which tackle social issues, including the 13-part short-film series ‘Heroine - Zindagi Ke Panno Se.’ Pandit has also made a mark with his documentaries. His documentary about the plight of Kashmiri Pandits - ‘Sharnarthi Apne Hi Desh Mei,’ won the RAPA Award for Best Picture. He made his Bollywood debut with the film ‘Sheen’ in 2004. He is the President of the Indian Film & Television Director’ Association.
