Two JeM-terrorists may have entered Delhi, photo released, alert sounded

The Delhi police on Tuesday sounded an alert saying two alleged Jaish-e-Mohammed operatives may have entered the city. All police stations have been asked to step up patrolling in their respective areas and residents have been advised to keep an eye. The advisory was issued days after a grenade was thrown at a religious ceremony in Punjab, killing three. Here's more.

    Pictures of the suspects released

Several police officers confirmed they have received intel that two JeM operatives are approaching the national capital. A photo of the suspects has also been released by Delhi police. In the picture, the two can be seen leaning on a milestone. The milestone reads, Firozpur 9 kilometer and Delhi 360 kilometer. Notably, Firozpur is the place in Punjab which was attacked on Sunday.

What's being done: Police officer explains security measures

An officer from Delhi's anti-terror cell said security at important places has been beefed up. "Security at important installations such as Delhi Metro, IGI airport, inter-state bus terminals, and security establishments have been significantly stepped up," he said. The officer added they were questioning second-hand car dealers and looking out for vehicles abandoned in parking lots. He insisted there was no need to panic.

A WhatsApp message spoke about avenging Usman Haidar's death

Notably, police are also looking into a WhatsApp chat in the student wing of JeM. The messages spoke about avenging the death of Maulana Masood Azhar's nephew Usman Haidar. Haidar was killed in an encounter in Kashmir on October 30.

Punjab's law enforcement agencies were asked to step up security

Last week the Punjab police were put on alert and told 6-7 JeM terrorists could move towards Delhi through the state. Punjab Inspector General of Police (Counter Intelligence) told law enforcement agencies to install checkpoints and inspect vehicles strictly. "There is a need to review and strengthen the second line of defense along the India-Pakistan border, and coordinate closely with the BSF," it read.

In November, suspects hijacked a car

Intelligence agencies stayed on their toes after a car was taken over by four people at gunpoint on November 13. The driver of the Toyota Innova, which was hired in Jammu, was forced out near Madhopur. It was reported the suspects plan to carry out a terror attack similar to Pathankot one in 2016, which killed seven security personnel.
