What's the story

Anthropic's AI agent, Claude, has received a major update in its Gmail and Google Drive integrations. The latest update allows Claude to draft, reply to, or forward emails on behalf of users. However, it does ask for user approval before sending any automated replies. This new feature expands the capabilities of the existing Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Calendar connectors in Claude.

Expanded functionality

Claude can now send emails and manage files

Anthropic announced on X that Claude can now perform more actions in Gmail and Google Drive using its updated Google Workspace connectors.

The AI agent can now send emails in Gmail and manage files in Google Drive, a major upgrade from its previous capabilities, where it could only check emails and summarize long or important messages for users.

User control

The update also improves file management in Google Drive by allowing prompts to share, move, or delete files across cloud storage.

Despite the expanded capabilities, Claude still maintains a human approval step before sending an email.

This way, users can review the automated message reply before it is sent out.

Claude Cowork available on mobile and web

The new Gmail capabilities are being rolled out to Claude users through Anthropic's Google Workspace integration.

In a separate announcement on X, Anthropic also revealed that Claude Cowork is now available on mobile and web for all paid plans.

These updates make the AI agent even more useful as a productivity assistant, especially in professional use cases.
