Half-lit moon and Saturn to light up the night sky on Nov. 27

Technology

This Thursday evening, look up after sunset for a cool sky show: a half-lit moon hanging out in Aquarius, with Saturn shining close by.
The moon hits its first quarter just after midnight, but the best views are right after sunset—especially if you're in North America.

Where to spot Saturn and what you'll see

Saturn will be less than 20° to the upper left of the moon, glowing yellow-white and outshining nearby star Fomalhaut.
Grab some binoculars or a small telescope if you want extra detail—you'll catch craters along the moon's edge where night meets day.

What makes this sight special

Even without any gear, you can spot the dark patches (lunar maria) on the moon's surface.
If you do have a telescope, check out Saturn's rings—they're almost edge-on right now and look like a slim line.
Both are easy to see if your skies are clear!
