Russian cosmonauts complete their 2nd spacewalk together: Here's how
Russian cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritsky wrapped up their second spacewalk together on Tuesday, spending almost seven hours outside the International Space Station (ISS).
Their mission: install new science gear and handle some routine maintenance to keep the Russian side of the ISS running smoothly.
What did the duo achieve during the spacewalk?
The duo kicked things off at 10:18am EDT, heading out from the Poisk module.
Using a long robotic arm called Strela, they reached the Nauka module to set up two plasma experiments—Impuls and IPI-500—which will help scientists understand how spacecraft engines affect Earth's atmosphere and test jet propulsion in space.
Ryzhikov also gave a window on Nauka a much-needed clean and swapped out equipment for a semiconductor experiment.
