Saturn's moon Mimas is hiding a secret ocean under its ice

Technology

Turns out, Saturn's little moon Mimas isn't just a frozen rock—it's got a whole ocean beneath 20-30km of ice.
Scientists figured this out by looking at data from the Cassini spacecraft, which showed the way Mimas moves points to liquid water below.

This ocean is super young (in space terms)

Unlike other icy moons, Mimas's ocean only formed about 10-25 million years ago.
That's pretty recent, so there aren't any big cracks or signs on the surface yet—even though things are active underneath.

What happens next?

Mimas's orbit will slowly change and, over millions of years, its hidden ocean will freeze again.
This discovery shakes up what we thought we knew about where oceans—and maybe life—could hide in our solar system.
