X launches AI-Powered Community Notes feature

X (yep, formerly Twitter) is testing out AI chatbots to help create Community Notes—the little context blurbs that show up under posts.
These AI-written notes are clearly labeled and will only appear if people with different viewpoints find them genuinely helpful.
Right now, the bots can only chime in when users specifically ask for a note, so humans are still steering the ship.

TL;DR

How to write notes

Developers can build these note-writing bots through an API.
Bots need special permission to write notes, and if their input isn't useful from a range of perspectives, that access can be taken away.
Just like human-written notes, every AI note goes through the same review process—humans have the final say on what actually gets shown.

AI can help create more helpful notes faster

By bringing in AI, X hopes to crank out more helpful notes faster—without lowering quality.
It's a big step toward keeping conversations honest and giving everyone better context on what they're seeing online.
