    What's the story

Mumbai Indians ensured a bottom-placed finish in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.

It was a poor campaign for MI under new skipper Hardik Pandya, who was traded from Gujarat Titans.

MI lacked bite across departments and their captain's misfiring campaign was a major talking point.

MI will hope to bounce back strongly in 2025. We decode their season in stats.

    Runs

Rohit and Tilak scored 400-plus runs for MI

Rohit Sharma was MI's top run-getter in IPL 2024. The former skipper amassed 417 runs from 14 games at 32.07.

His strike rate was 150. Rohit hit one century and a fifty. He smoked 45 fours and 23 sixes.

Youngster Tilak Varma shone in parts with 416 runs at 41.60 from 13 games (SR: 149.64). He hit three fifties (4s: 35, 6s: 19).

    Information

Rohit and Suryakumar were MI's centurions

Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav registered a century each for MI. Rohit hammered a 63-ball 105* against Chennai Super Kings on April 14. MI lost the clash. Meanwhile, Suryakumar dazzled against Sunrisers Hyderabad with a knock of an unbeaten 102, helping MI win.

    Wickets

Jasprit Bumrah hit the 20-wicket mark

Jasprit Bumrah finished with 20 wickets in IPL 2024. Having played 13 matches, Bumrah averaged 16.80 and his economy rate was 6.48.

For the fourth time in his IPL career, Bumrah claimed 20-plus scalps in a season.

Meanwhile, fellow pacer Gerald Coetzee managed 13 scalps from 10 games at 26.23.

Veteran spinner Piyush Chawla took 13 scalps as well at 24 (matches: 11).

    Information

Bumrah claimed a fifer for MI

Bumrah was the lone MI bowler with a five-wicket haul in IPL 2024. He took 5/21 versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede. The Indian pacer also made his presence felt with three three-wicket hauls. Coetzee took one four-wicket haul for the Indians.

    Unwanted spells

Maphaka and Wood prove to be costly

Teenager Kwena Maphaka conceded 66 runs versus Sunrisers Hyderabad in match number 8.

As per Cricbuzz, Maphaka's 0/66 are the most expensive bowling returns on IPL debut, surpassing Michael Neser's 0/62 for Punjab Kings vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Mohali, 2013.

Later on, England's Luke Wood conceded 1/68 versus Delhi Capitals.

Wood has conceded most runs in an IPL game for MI.

    Other stats

MI's other notable stats from IPL 2024

MI clocked two century-plus stands in IPL 2024. SKY and Varma added 143* runs versus SRH on May 6, 2024. Rohit and Ishan Kishan added 101 runs for the opening wicket versus RCB on April 11.

MI managed three scores of 200-plus. Their highest score was 247/9 versus DC.

Across 14 innings, MI finished with 23 wickets in the powerplay overs at 33.21.

    Information

A look at MI's points summary

Mumbai claimed four wins from 14 matches. They suffered 10 defeats. MI's NRR was -0.318. For the second time in the tournament's history, MI clocked 10 defeats in a season (also IPL 2022).
