An ODI and Test average in the 30s doesn't do justice to the early-career buzz that surrounded Sanjay Manjrekar, and his international playing career has mostly been one of unrealized promise. Manjrekar built a name for himself as a good right-handed middle-order batsman as a youngster in the Cooch Behar Trophy between 1978 and 1982, before winning the Vizzy Trophy and the Rohinton Baria Trophy at the university level in 1985. In the same year, he made his First-Class debut for Bombay, and after a solid performance over the next few seasons, he earned an India cap against the visiting West Indians in 1987. Manjrekar’s career saw extreme ups and downs while he was busy playing and scoring on the field. The first opportunity that led him to become a first-class cricket player was in the overseas match with West Indies and Pakistan in 1989. Soon after this, due to his inconsistent performance, his career saw a deep low which led to him losing his title of a first-class player. Currently, he is one of the most sought after cricket commentators in the world.
