In Netflix's new-show, Emraan plays expelled spy recalled to duty
Netflix, in association with Red Chillies Entertainment, has announced their new multilingual television series. Emraan Hashmi will star in this yet untitled 8-episodes political espionage thriller. The show is based on Bilal Siddiqi's book 'The Bard of Blood'. Hashmi plays Kabir Anand, an expelled spy, who spent his life as a Shakespeare professor in Panchgani. Later, he was called back for the country's service.
Red Chillies' owner, Shah Rukh Khan and Hashmi had a jovial conversation on Twitter and both seemed excited about the upcoming series. Hashmi quoted Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' staying in his character of Kabir Anand. He said 'To be or not to be...' before claiming he was ready for the role. The superstar, on his part, congratulated Hashmi and welcomed him on board.
Be! Be! Welcome aboard my friend. Here’s to a journey full of excitement drama. https://t.co/ZQU7F3IhUc— Shah Rukh Khan (@iamsrk) July 27, 2018
Of late, Hashmi has been taking it slow for the past few years and had only a couple of releases. His last film was last year's 'Baadshaho'. Despite being absent from the limelight for quite some time, he enjoys a pretty wide fan base. The actor's role in this Netflix series is bound to make his fans excited.
Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment made a deal with Netflix, thereby becoming the first Indian production house to tie-up with the streaming giant. The long-term deal would allow Netflix access to dozens of Red Chillies films. 'Dear Zindagi' was the first movie which was streamed on the platform. This web series will be a step in a new direction for both parties.
Notably, Netflix took the Indian market by storm with 'Sacred Games' opening to largely positive reviews. Their other forays in Indian content have also been successful, including 'Love Per Square Foot' and 'Lust Stories'. With Radhika Apte's 'Ghoul' coming up along with other Indian originals like 'Crocodile', 'Again', and 'Selection Day', this new announcement shows just how steadily Netflix is targeting the market.
