Amazon Prime Video increases ad frequency
Prime Video has bumped up its ad time, now running 4 to 6 minutes of ads per hour—about double what it used to be. This follows the platform's move to an ad-supported model earlier in 2024.
TL;DR
More ads in your favorite shows
If you're a Prime subscriber, expect more breaks during your shows. Want to skip the ads? That'll cost you an extra $3 per month on top of your regular subscription. The basic plan also misses out on premium perks like Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision.
Competing with traditional TV
Even with the increase, Prime Video's ad load is lighter than traditional TV, which packs in around 13-16 minutes of commercials every hour. Other streamers like Netflix and Max are making similar moves with their own ad-supported plans.
