Son of legendary Indian singer Kishore Kumar, and Bengali actress Ruma Guha Thakurta, Amit Kumar is a playback singer, actor, record producer, and music director and is best known for singing RD Burman songs. Kumar has sung songs in Hindi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Odia, Assamese, Marathi, and Konkani. He professionally started his career with the hit song ‘Hosh Mein Ham Kahan,’ in the movie ‘Darwaza’ (1978). His first official release was ‘Main Bhi To Akela Hoon’ for the movie ‘Zindagi Aur Toofan.’ He has also recorded several songs with his father including ‘Haseeno Ke Chakkar Me Padhna Nahi,’ ‘Nazar Lage Na Sathiyon,’ and ‘Sun Chache Bol Bhatije.’ He rose to prominence with the super-hit song ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain’ from the 1976-film ‘Balika Badhu.’ The song was composed by Burman and Amit went on to work with Burman on hundreds of songs in his career. He won a Filmfare Award for the song ‘Teri Yaad Aa Rahi Hai,’ for the movie ‘Love Story’ (1981). He has also worked with Bappi Lahiri, music duo Anand-Milind, and Jatin Lalit. In 1994, after the demise of Burman, he withdrew from playback singing. He has also acted in several movies including ‘Door Gagan ki Chhaon Men’ (1964) and ‘Badhti Ka Naam Dadhi’ (1974).
