Banwarilal Purohit: News
Born on April 16, 1940, Banwarilal Purohit is the 29th Governor of Punjab. As of August 29, 2021, he is also the Administrator of Chandigarh. In 2017, Purohit served as the Governor of Tamil Nadu and is also a former Member of Parliament from Nagpur. He was also the MP as a member of the Indian National Congress twice and once as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the past, Purohit, who was elected as the MLA from Nagpur East Constituency, was again elected in 1980 from Nagpur South. In 1982, the Indian politician had also served as the Minister of State for Urban Development, Slum Improvement, and Housing. Purohit, who contested as a BJP candidate for Lok Sabha Elections in 1991, had launched a campaign to build Ram Temple in Ayodhya. In 1999, Purohit had quit BJP and joined INC. However, facing some differences and issues, Purohit took a step forward to form his own party, Vidarbha Rajya Party in 2004. Purohit was also appointed as the Governor of Assam in 2016.
