Murli Manohar Joshi is a politician from India. He is a former Member of Parliament for the Kanpur parliamentary seat and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, of which he served as President from 1991 and 1993. He was previously a physics professor at Allahabad University. He was a significant figure in the BJP's leadership. Joshi later became the Union Minister for Human Resources Development in the National Democratic Alliance cabinet. The Government of India honored Joshi with the Padma Vibhushan, the country's second-highest civilian honor, in 2017. Joshi attended school in Chandpur, Bijnore District, and Almora. He earned his bachelor's degree in science from Meerut College and his master's degree in science from Allahabad University. Professor Rajendra Singh, who eventually became the RSS Sanghchalak, was one of his teachers here. The topic of his doctoral dissertation was Spectroscopy. He was the first to publish a research article in Hindi in the field of physics. Joshi began teaching Physics at Allahabad University after receiving his Ph.D.
