Brian Lara: News

Some may consider him the greatest batsman of the modern era, while others may consider him one of the greats. Either way, Brian Charles Lara was a cut above the rest. Lara made his first-class debut in 1987. At the age of 20, he became the captain of Trinidad & Tobago in 1990. In the same year, Lara made his test debut in the absence of Sir Viv Richards. The year 1994 was monumental for him as he scored 375 against England, the highest score in Test at the time. The same year, Lara scored 501 runs for Warwickshire and broke the record for the highest score in first-class cricket. In 2004, he scored 400 runs against England in an innings, regaining the record for the highest score in Tests. Although he was appointed as the captain of the West Indies, he was not as successful. He was the highest run-getter in Tests when he retired in 2006. In 2012, he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
