She has fascinated everyone with her growth from a surgical intern to a resident at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital (formerly known as Seattle Grace Hospital). One might ask, what/who makes Dr. Grey that special? Ellen Pompeo. Why? Because she is the one who brought Dr. Meredith Grey to life on a screen. Born on November 10, 1969, in Everett, Massachusetts, Pompeo was the youngest of five children. Her journey as an actress began in New York City in 1995 after an agent spotted her. An ad campaign for L'Oreal was her first assignment. In 1996, she made her television debut in an episode of ‘Law & Order.’ Three years later, she made her feature film debut with ‘Coming Soon’ in 1999. Pompeo’s first lead role was in the film ‘Moonlight Mile’ (2002). Despite the film being a commercial failure, her performance was considered Academy Award-worthy by many. In 2005, she was cast as Dr. Meredith Grey in Shonda Rhimes’ ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ The show that was renewed for its 18th season in 2021 made her one of the best-paid actors in Hollywood. Pompeo has won various accolades for her portrayal of Dr. Grey. She shared a Screen Actors Guild Awards with the cast of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ in 2007. She also has three People's Choice Awards to her name (2013, 2015, and 2020).
