Aruna Sundararajan: News

There are close to 5000 officers in the Indian Administrative Service. They are ingrained in the lives of Indians like no one else but are often forgotten quickly. Some, however, continue to stay in the minds of the people they served for their achievements and their service. Aruna Sundararajan is one of those few who left an indelible mark in the hearts of people during her tenure. Hailing from Kerala, she was a 1982-batch IAS officer from Kerala cadre. Before being at the helm of various path-breaking projects at the center, she began her journey from Kerala. The Akshaya e-literacy project that received both national and international acclaim was her brainchild when she was Kerala’s first IT secretary. She is credited with changing the fortune of the domestic steel industry by the introduction of ‘Minimum Import Price’ when she was the Secretary to the ministry. She later served as the Secretary to the Ministry of Electronics and IT where she played a major role in the Government’s ‘digital India’ campaign. In her final innings, she served as the Secretary (Telecom). She took major initiatives to convert India into a leader in the digital communications sphere.
