Babul Supriyo: News

Babul Supriyo is an Indian playback singer and politician from West Bengal who belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). As of 2021, he is a Member of the Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Asansol, West Bengal. Supriyo did his schooling at Don Bosco School, Hooghly, and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce. In the 1990s, Babul Supriyo burst onto the scene as a talented singer from a modest background, delivering numerous musical hits over the next decade. His joining of the BJP in 2014 marked his entry into politics. He won from Asansol constituency in the Lok Sabha Elections that year, retaining the seat in the next General Elections in 2019. Supriyo served as a Minister of State (MoS) for various ministries from 2014-21 in the successive Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) governments. He was associated with the Ministries of Urban Development and Housing (2014-16), Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises (2016-19), and Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (2019-21). Supriyo contested the 2021 West Bengal State Assembly elections from the constituency of Tollyganj but lost to All India Trinamool Congress's (AITC) Aroop Biswas.
