Kirit Somaiya is an Indian politician who is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is known for representing the Mumbai North-East in the 13th Lok Sabha and the 16th Lok Sabha. Somaiya is serving as the Vice President of BJP’s Maharashtra unit, as of 2021. He was born on February 12, 1954, in Mumbai and completed his education at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and Mumbai University. Somaiya developed an interest in politics at a young age after his mother encouraged him to serve the country. During his college days, he got involved in student activism, and in 1975, he took part in the Jayaprakash Narayan movement when a State of National Emergency was declared in India. Following this, he joined BJP and represented the Mumbai North-East Lok Sabha constituency and the Mulund constituency of the Maharashtra Assembly. Somaiya has also served as the National Convenor of BJP’s Anti-Corruption Scam Expose Committee. During his tenure, he ran a nationwide campaign against the corruption of the UPA government. In 1994, Somaiya also started an NGO called the Investors’ Grievances Forum (IGF).
