Vinod Khanna was an actor, producer, and director in Hindi cinema. He was one of the most established and highest-paid actors in the Hindi film industry, with a career spanning over 45 years. Born in Peshawar, his family shifted to Bombay immediately after India’s partition. Even though he was interested in cricket, Khanna was noticed by Sunil Dutt after his graduation and offered him a role in his upcoming movie. In 1968, Khanna made a debut with the film ‘Man Ka Meet’. For three years, he was offered supporting or villainous roles in films. However, in 1971, he got his breakthrough as a lead actor with ‘Hum Tum Aur Woh’. His movie ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ became the highest-grossing film of 1977. Over the years, he was cast as a lead actor in numerous films. The industry saw an era of Vinod Khanna ruling over the industry with Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. Even though he took a five-year hiatus, he returned with ‘Insaaf’ in 1987. He passed away in April 2017. He was awarded the 'Dadasaheb Phalke Award' in 2018 posthumously. The film ‘Guns of Banaras’ (2020) was his official final film appearance.
