Mumbai: 2,000 people duped by online friendship clubs

The Bandra-Kurla Complex cyber police apprehended an online friendship club which successfully fooled 2,000 people over the last two years.
This was done under the guise of offering people physical relations with the opposite sex by signing up for membership for Rs. 999
Five people have been detained, will remain in police custody till 10th April.

Intelligence inputs suspect ISIS attack in Mumbai

Maharashtra has been put on high-alert after an intelligence input about Islamic State members trying to enter Mumbai via the sea was received by Mumbai police.
According to a source, 9 suspects from Assam are probably targeting Mumbai.
Police officials are currently checking lodges and budget hotels and have been asked to conduct late-night "nakabandis."
However, Coast Guard officials have denied sending any information.

Mumbai fire brigade to acquire bikes for faster responses

In order to reduce the time taken by fire-fighters to reach the scene of the accident in a congested area, Mumbai fire brigade is now procuring bikes.
According to civic officials, narrow lanes of the city have been obstacles for fire-fighting operations and using bikes will enable the fighters to reach the scene of fire quickly.
Congested areas include Bhendi Bazaar, Dongri, Kalbadevi etc.

Western Railways to spend Rs. 18 crore on secure access

The Western Railway (WR) will now control the entry and exit points of 6 prominent railway stations-Mumbai Central, Dadar, Borivali, Bandra Terminus, Andheri and Vasai Road.
As part of this project, which would cost Rs.18.23 crore, WR will obtain 475 CCTVs, 4 baggage scanners and 131 handheld metal detectors for the six stations.
Rs. 75lakh will be allotted for access-control fencing and boundary walls.

Police discover 300 kg beef in Bhiwandi slaughterhouse

A slaughterhouse in Bhiwandi suspected to be of beef was raided by the police accompanied by Bajrang Dal workers.
300 kg meet suspected to be of beef, 250 animal skins and 34 rescued animals were discovered.
Seven people, including the owner of the slaughterhouse and its employees were arrested.
An FIR under the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act has been registered.

Congress, Opposition demand farm loan waivers in Maharashtra

After CM Yogi Adityanath's decision to waive farmers' loans, the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party-led Opposition is demanding a farm loan waiver in Maharashtra worth Rs. 30,000crore.
On Wednesday, 6 opposition parties (including Peasants and Workers Party, Samajwadi Party etc.) had a meeting wherein they discussed how to strengthen their agitation.
They also launched a drive in 16 districts of Maharashtra over these demands.

Mumbai ATMs dry up, residents face cash crunch

The string of bank holidays (April 1-2 and 4) and cashless ATMs across the city have left residents of Mumbai with very little cash.
According to bank officials, fiscal year-end closing, and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) releasing 10%-15% cash lesser than usual, are the reasons for ATMs drying up and going cashless.
They also added that the situation would improve by the weekend.
