Ashok Shankarrao Chavan is an Indian National Congress (INC) politician and a former Chief Minister of Maharashtra. As of 2021, he is the PWD Minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra. He is the son of senior Congress politician Shankarrao Chavan, who himself was a two-time Chief Minister of Maharashtra and served as a Union Minister during the Prime Ministerships of Rajiv Gandhi and PV Narasimha Rao. Chavan did BSc from Hazarimal Jomani College and an MBA from BYK College of Commerce in Maharashtra. He was the General Secretary of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) from 1995 to 1999 and later served as its President from 2014 to 2019. He was elected as MP of Lok Sabha for the first time in 1987 from the Nanded constituency. He was a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council during 1992-98 and Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 1999 to 2014 for three terms. After the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, CM Vilasrao Deshmukh resigned, and Ashok Chavan took over the post. He was re-elected CM in the 2009 Assembly elections but had to step down in 2010 for his alleged role in the Adarsh Housing Society scam.
