Fairphone is a Dutch social enterprise headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The brand’s aim is to develop environmentally friendly smartphones that do not contain conflict minerals like gold, tin, and tungsten, and have fair labor conditions. It was founded in January 2013 by Bas van Abel, Miquel Ballester, and Tessa Wernink. The first phone, named Fairphone 1, was launched in December 2013.
