Bruce Wayne, also known by his vigilante name ‘Batman,’ is a fictional superhero character that appears in the American comic book published by DC Comics. The character takes the form of Batman at night to protect the city of Gotham against evil energies and to strike fear into the hearts of criminal forces. However, in public, he is dressed as an infamous American playboy and billionaire industrialist called Bruce Wayne. The character has been designed by artist Bob Kane along with writer Bill Finger. It made its debut in the 27th issue of the DC comics in 1939. Batman is also one of the founding members of the Justice League. Batman does not possess any kind of superpowers but solely relies on his intellect and physical strength. The character got its own spin-off in 1940 which featured him as the main protagonist. In 1960, the ‘Batman’ television series used the camp style aesthetics that continued to be the character’s feature till date. Batman has been known as one of the greatest fictional superheroes ever created. The character is considered to be a popular icon in pop culture.
