Mark Waugh: News
Mark Edward Waugh is a former Australian batsman, an off-spin bowler, and a cricket commentator who holds several records under his belt. Born on June 2, 1965, he is the twin brother of former cricketer Steve Waugh and elder sibling of former cricketer Dean Waugh. He is also a former national selector of the Australian cricket team, a position he held until 2018. He played Test matches and One Day International matches for Australia. Regarded as one of the best slip fielders in cricket history, Waugh made his ODI debut in December 1988 against Pakistan. Until 2009, he held the record of taking the maximum catches as a non-wicket keeper. The record was broken by Rahul Dravid. During the 1996 World Cup, he scored four centuries, which made him the first Australian, to score four centuries and more than 1,000 runs in a World Cup tournament. Throughout his career, Waugh played 372 international matches and scored 38 centuries and 97 half-centuries. In 1998 he was charged with being involved in the 1994 match-fixing case. He announced his retirement in 2002. Following his retirement, he has been associated with ‘Nine Network,’ ‘Network Ten’ and ‘Fox Sports’ as a commentator. In 2014, he was inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame.
