Born on October 5, 1983, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is a Bangladeshi right-arm fast-medium bowler, former Bangladesh cricket team’s captain, and a politician. Regarded as one of the best Bangladesh captains in ODI and T20 International (T20I) formats and as the best pace bowler ever produced by Bangladesh, Mortaza made his international Test debut and One Day International debut in November 2001 against Zimbabwe. In 2006, Mortaza made his T20 International debut against Zimbabwe. As of 2021, Mortaza has played 310 international matches and has maintained a bowling average of 35.02. Between 2010 and 2020, Bangladesh won 61 matches out of 117 matches under Mortaza’s captaincy. He became the fifth bowler to take 100 wickets as a captain in ODI cricket. Despite having a prolific cricket career, Mortaza suffered 15 injuries and had to undergo 10 operations as of 2021, some of which affected his captaincy. In 2009, Mortaza had to quit Test cricket following an injury. In 2017, he announced his retirement from T20 International cricket. In 2018, Mortaza won the Narali-2 constituency for the Awami League party. He was inducted as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Youth and Sports Ministry in February 2019.
