Jacinda Ardern: News

Jacinda Ardern is the current Prime Minister of New Zealand, who assumed office on 26 October 2017. At 37, she became the youngest female head of a government. On 21 June 2018, she gave birth to a daughter, Neve Te Aroha, becoming the world’s second elected head of government to give birth while in office. Former Pakistan PM Benazir Bhutto was the first. Ardern is New Zealand’s third female PM, after Jenny Shipley (1997–1999) and Helen Clark (1999–2008). Interestingly, after graduating, Ardern worked as a researcher in Clark’s office. Ardern, on June 8 2020, declared that her country is coronavirus free, and lifted almost all restrictions. International media praised her for the swift action she took as a response to the outbreak.
