Known for his burly stature during his playing days, Bharat Arun is more popular as the bowling coach responsible for developing India into a balanced cricketing powerhouse from a team dependent on its batsmen. Born in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, in 1962, Arun made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu at the age of 20. A medium pacer with hard-hitting batting prowess down the order, Arun was part of Tamil Nadu's successful Ranji campaign in 1986-87. He made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 1986 after impressing with the ball in the practice match against the Sri Lankans. Arun made his ODI debut against the same side in 1986. Although he had a short international career with only two tests and four ODIs under his belt, Arun proved to be more than a capable coach. He started as a coach for the Tamil Nadu Ranji team in 2002. He led them to two finals but his most significant achievement later as a coach came when he led the India U19 team to their World Cup win in 2012. Arun has been the bowling coach of the senior Indian team since 2017.
