Ram Nath Kovind: News

Ram Nath Kovind is the 14th President of India and a former Member of Parliament of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He did his BCom and LLB from Kanpur University. He started practicing as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in the 1970s, later rendering his services as Standing Counsel for the Union Government in the country’s Supreme Court. He joined the BJP in 1991 and served as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from Uttar Pradesh for two terms between 1994 and 2006. He has been a member of the Parliamentary Committees on Law & Justice, Welfare of Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes, Social Justice & Empowerment, Home Affairs, and Petroleum and Natural Gas. As a member of the Indian delegation, Kovind addressed the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in October 2003. In 2015, he was appointed as the Governor of Bihar, serving in the position till 2017. In 2017, Kovind became the second Dalit person after KR Narayanan to hold the office of the President of India.
