Born on February 23, 1967, as Anupama Chandra, Indian author, journalist, film critic, and director 0f the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) Mumbai Film Festival, Anupama Chopra has authored several globally recognized books on Indian cinema. Chandra is the daughter of Indian screenwriter Kamna Chandra. She completed her graduation at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Her first book ‘Sholay: The Making of a Classic’ (2000) received the National Film Award for the Best Book on Cinema. Her second book ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (2002) was published by the British Film Institute. Her third book, ‘King of Bollywood: Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema’ (2007) was included in the New York Times Book Review. As of 2021, Chopra has penned down eight books revolving in and around the Indian film industry. Her writings are also featured in ‘The New York Times,’ ‘Los Angeles Times,’ ‘Variety,’ and ‘Sight & Sound.’ She has also worked with ‘India Today,’ ‘Hindustan Times,’ ‘NDTV,’ and ‘Vogue India.’ In 2012, she hosted a weekly show, ‘The Front Row With Anupama Chopra’ on Star World. She is married to film producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and the duo has two children.
