Bhupinder Singh Hooda, born on September 15, 1947, is an Indian National Congress (INC) leader and a former Chief Minister of Haryana. As of 2021, he is the Leader of Opposition in the Haryana State Assembly. Hooda earned his Bachelor's Degree from Panjab University and did his LLB from Delhi University's Faculty of Law. He was associated with INC since his early days and was a Member of the Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Rohtak between 1991 and 1999. He was again elected from the Rohtak constituency in the 2004 General Elections but left in 2005 to become the Chief Minister of Haryana for the first time. Hooda was re-elected in 2009, serving a second term as CM till 2014, when the state's government went to BJP, and Manohar Lal Khattar became the Chief Minister. As of 2021, Hooda is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for grave charges of corruption in cases of shady land dealings.
