Born on April 1, 1984, in Chennai, Murali Vijay is an Indian right-handed opening batsman who has played for the Indian cricket team and represents Chennai and Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket. Vijay began his cricket career in 2003 by playing in a cricket club representing Alwarpet. He made his international Test debut in 2008 against Australia, replacing Gautam Gambhir. As of 2021, Vijay has played 61 Test matches. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut in 2008 against England and his T20 International (T20I) debut in May 2010 against Afghanistan. As of 2021, Vijay has played 87 international matches and has scored 12 centuries and 16 half-centuries, and has maintained a batting average of 34.81. He made his Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2009 with his hometown franchise Chennai Super Kings and played for the team in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2018, 2019, and 2020-2021 editions of the IPL. In 2014, Vijay was bought by Delhi Daredevils, and for 2015, 2016, and 2017 IPL editions by Kings XI Punjab. As of 2021, Vijay has played 106 IPL matches and has maintained a batting average of 25.93.
