Born on March 7, 1955, Indian actor, director, film producer and the former chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India, Anupam Kher has several awards and accolades under his belt. The internationally acclaimed actor graduated from the National School of Drama in 1978. Kher has appeared in over 500 movies, in a career spanning three decades. Kher lost his hair at an early age. Though Kher made his Bollywood debut in 1984, with the movie ‘Saaransh,’ the then 29-year-old Kher played the role of a 65-year man, who loses his son. The movie was commercially successful, and Kher’s role was critically lauded thus earning him his first Filmfare Award for the movie. Kher has played a variety of roles over the years. As of 2021, some of his blockbuster hit movies include ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin,’ (1991), ‘Beta’ (1991), ‘Darr’ (1993), ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun…!’ (1994), ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (1995), ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,’ (1998), ‘Kya Kehna’ (1999), and ‘A Wednesday!’ (2008) among others. Kher has also appeared in international movies including ‘Bend it Like Beckham’ (2002), ‘Bride and Prejudice’ (2004), ‘The Mistress of Spices’ (2006), ‘Lust,’ ‘Caution’ (2007), ‘Speedy Singhs’ (2011) and ‘ER.’ Kher made his directorial debut with ‘Om Jai Jagadish’ (2002). As of 2021, he has appeared in over a dozen Television shows. He is a recipient of two National Film Awards, and eight Filmfare Awards, as of 2021. A Kashmiri Hindu, Kher has been vocal about the issues of Kashmiri Pandits over Twitter. In 2020, he was involved in a Twitter spat with actor Naseeruddin Shah, by calling him frustrated and a drug addict.
