Singh is known for saving the country from a grave economic crisis in a series of liberalization policies, leading to a much-needed turnaround in the economy. Singh was appointed the Prime Minister in 2004 and held the post until 2014. After 2014, he has taken a step back from active politics, although he remains a part of the INC.
