Pramod Sawant is an Indian politician who serves as the 13th Chief Minister of Goa, as of 2021. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and a physician by profession. He also represents the Sanquelim constituency in the Goa Legislative Assembly. Previously, he had served as the Speaker of the Goa assembly. Sawant was born on April 24, 1973, in Goa and completed his education at Shivaji University and Tilak Maharashtra University. In 2008, Sawant began his political career when he contested the Pale constitution by-election on a BJP ticket but lost to Pratap Prabhakar Gauns of the Indian National Congress. Later, he won the 2012 election from the Sanquelim constituency, where he defeated Gauns by 14,255 votes. He has served as the spokesperson of the BJP’s Goa unit for a short period of time. After the death of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the position fell vacant and Sawant was elected by the Legislative Assembly. In 2019, he was appointed as the Chief Minister of Goa. Sawant is married to Sulakshana who is also a BJP leader and serves as the President of BJP Mahila Morcha’s Goa unit.
