Articles about Sushil Kumar Modi
Sushil Kumar Modi is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. During his student days, Modi was the General Secretary of the Patna University Students’ Union, and here came in contact with other future leaders like Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP), Nitish Kumar (JDU), and Lalu Prasad Yadav (RJD). They participated in the JP Movement of the 1970s and were detained for several months, even during the Emergency. Modi entered the Bihar legislature in 1990 after winning from the Kumhrar constituency (previously known as Patna Central) and retained the seat in the 1995 and 2000 elections. In 2004, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bhagalpur but resigned the next year to become a part of the BJP-JDU Bihar state government. In 2017, when JDU broke off the grand alliance with RJD and INC and formed the government in the state along with the BJP, Modi again became a part of the administration. He was the Deputy Chief Minister in the Bihar governments under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar from 2005 to 2013 and from 2017 to 2020. Modi was elected to the Rajya Sabha in December 2020.
