One of the greatest actors of the Indian cinema, Sanjeev Kumar is the recipient of two National Film Awards for Best Actor. Popularly known as Haribhai in the industry, he started his career with IPTA before joining the Indian National Theatre. He got famous for playing the roles of older men. In 1960, the film 'Hum Hindustani' marked the debut of Kumar in Bollywood, but he played a minor role. In the film 'Nishan', he played the lead role. In the following year, he entered the Gujarati film industry. In 1970, he gained immense national recognition from the film 'Khilona'. Later, 'Seeta Aur Geeta', 'Manchali', and 'Aap Ki Kasam' became some of the most hit movies of his career. He also won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in 'Arjun Pandit'. He acted in more than seven languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, and Gujarati. Kumar died at the age of 47 after suffering a major heart attack. The government recognized him by naming a road and school after him in Surat and opening an auditorium in his name in 2014.
