Digvijaya Singh: News

Digvijaya Singh, born on February 28, 1947, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, is an Indian politician who belongs to the royal family of Raghogarh. His father Balbhadra Singh was the ruler of the princely state of Raghogarh in the present-day Guna district of Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh is also where Singh rose to prominence as a political figure. Backed by the Congress party, Singh first contested in the state Assembly elections in 1977 and won from Raghogarh. He was part of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Arjun Singh's Cabinet between 1980-84 post which he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Rajgarh in 1984. Later, Singh was elected the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for two terms in 1993 and 1998. He was the general secretary of the All India Congress Committee, the crucial decision-making body of the Congress party before vacating the position in 2019. He ran for the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 from Bhopal but lost to BJP's Pragya Thakur. As of 2021, Singh is a member of the Rajya Sabha and a key member of the Congress Party.
