film producer, composer, and painter, who is regarded as one of the greatest artists in the western film world. Recipient of several accolades, Hopkins graduated from Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in 1957 and was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He began his career in 1960 as a stage actor with the play ‘Have a Cigarette,’ produced by Palace Theater, Swansea. Between 1964 and 1989, he worked in more than 20 plays including the famous Shakespeare play ‘Macbeth,’ ‘Julius Caesar,’ and ‘The Tempest.’ Hopkins got his first break in the film industry with the 1967 short film ‘The White Bus.’ However, he rose to prominence with the movie ‘The Lion in Winter’ (1968). Between 1967 and 2021, Hopkins worked in more than 50 movies, out of which some were critically acclaimed including ‘The Silence of the Lambs,’ ‘Hannibal,’ ‘Red Dragon,’ ‘The Elephant Man’ (1980), ‘84 Charing Cross Road’ (1987), ‘Howards End’ (1992), ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’ (1992), ‘Shadowlands’ (1993), ‘Legends of the Fall’ (1994), ‘Meet Joe Black’ (1998), ‘The Mask of Zorro’ (1998), The ‘Thor’ series, and ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ (2017). Apart from acting in movies, Hopkins has also appeared in several Television shows. Between 1965 and 2021, he appeared in more than 40 Television shows. He is the recipient of two Academy Awards, four BAFTA Awards, two Emmy Awards among several other honors. In 1993, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II and was conferred with the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003. As a philanthropist, Hopkins has been a member of Greenpeace, and a patron of RAPt (Rehabilitation for Addicted Prisoners Trust).
