The winner of the Best Lyricist Award at the 2015 National Film Awards, Varun Grover, is an Indian songwriter, poet, director, and stand-up comedian. Born in a Punjabi family in Sundernagar, Himachal Pradesh, he moved to Uttar Pradesh to pursue civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, obtaining the degree in 2003. Initially, Grover started his writing career with 'The Great Indian Comedy Show' in 2004, following which he became a writer for many Indian television shows, including 'SAB Ka Bheja Fry' and 'Ranvir Vinay Aur Kaun', among others. In 2009, Grover appeared made a debut in Bollywood as a dialogue writer with 'Accident on Hill Road'. Over the years, he also penned lyrics for songs from many famous Bollywood films. From the 'Gangs of Wasseypur' series and 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' to 'Udta Punjab', 'Sui Dhaaga', and 'Sonchiriya', Grover has written the lyrics of songs from over 15 Hindi movies. He also worked as a writer on the popular 2018 Netflix web series 'Sacred Games'. Also a stand-up comedian, Grover is the co-creator of 'Aisi Taisi Democracy'.
