Harbhajan Singh: News

The "turbanator," as he was known amongst his opposition, cricketer Harbhajan Singh was one of the best off-spinners India produced. Although there were times when it piqued the spectator's interest for the wrong reasons, it is undeniable that the lad from Ludhiana had a fire burning with him. It was only a matter of where or whom he was directing it at. Singh made his international debut in 1998 against Australia in a Test. Although he made his ODI debut the same year, he wasn't able to make an impact. It was only after the turn of the millennium that Singh found his form. This includes the historical performance in the 2001 Test series against Australia, where he took the first-ever Test hat-trick by an Indian bowler. Singh and Anil Kumble formed a deadly spin duo. With his wicket-taking skills, he even replaced Kumble as India's lead spinner in ODIs. He was expected to take India's spin mantle after Kumble's retirement, but a steep decline in form in the latter stages of his career prevented that. He has taken 417 wickets in Tests and 269 wickets in ODIs for India.
